Living organisms and their Environment


The environment of an organism can be classified into two categories.
  1. Abiotic environment (Physical, non-living)
  2. Biotic environment (Living)



In the next 5 lessons, you will have an opportunity to:
  1. Define the term "habitat"
  2. Identify factors of the physical environment
  3. Collect information of a physical environment of a biome that is assigned to your expert group
  4. Present your expert group's findings to the class
  5. Discuss to compare the similarities and between the physical factors of each biome

Most importantly, you must be able to understand the influence and importance of the physical factors to the life of the organisms.

TASK #1

Now, we start by being assigned to our expert groups of 3 to 4 people to collect information of the biome assigned.

Your teacher will fill up the table below to remind you of your groupings.

Get into your expert groups. Your teacher will assigned you roles to facilitate task of collecting information of the biome assigned to you. Listen carefully to the responsibility and task of each role.

At the end of the discussion, you must fill up the wiki page of your assigned biome.

Job description
Task master
  • motivates others to work their hardest and contribute to the discussion
  • responsible for seeing that all members begin with the same information and understand the nature of the task
  • reads print instructions and reviews record sheets aloud to the group
  • assures that all have completed their task and looks for errors in data
  • seeks help by raising hand for task difficulties regarding clarification and help required for the understanding of the questions asked
Time keeper
  • motivates others to work their hardest and contribute to the discussion
  • praises and reinforces the responses of others
  • checks the time and ensures that the group follows closely to the time
Scribe
  • writes down all important data, decisions, contributions, accomplishments
  • types into the wiki to be shared with the entire class
  • seeks help by raising hand for technical difficulties regarding the computer or wiki page


Task #3
Present your findings regarding you biome in 10 minutes. Highlighting only the most important part of the characteristics of the bime and about two adaptations of the animals or plants found in it.

You will be given marks for the following.
  1. Quality and completeness of your answer- 10 marks
  2. Team work and effort- 10 marks
  3. Presentation skills and even distribution of parts in the sharing session- 10 marks
